Akkoma is a lightweight ActivityPub server for running your own Fediverse social instance.
Akkoma on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS
Akkoma is a lightweight, highly customisable open source server for the fediverse: a self hosted, federated microblogging platform that speaks ActivityPub, so your instance interoperates with Mastodon, Pleroma and thousands of other servers. Akkoma is a community maintained fork of Pleroma, written in Elixir on the Erlang/OTP runtime with PostgreSQL for storage, and it ships the pleroma-fe and admin-fe web front ends. This image is built and maintained by cloudimg on a hardened, fully patched Ubuntu 24.04 LTS base, installed from the official Akkoma OTP release.
### What is included
- Akkoma installed from the official OTP release (AGPL 3.0) on the bundled Erlang/OTP runtime
- PostgreSQL 16 and the Akkoma service under systemd, bound to the loopback interface only
- nginx fronting the app: an unauthenticated status endpoint and the full web UI plus the Mastodon compatible API
- Every per VM secret generated on first boot: the secret_key_base, the signing and JWT secrets, the web push VAPID keypair and the PostgreSQL password. Nothing is baked into the image
- A per VM administrator account created on first boot and recorded in a root only credentials file
- The pleroma-fe and admin-fe front ends and a paired deploy guide
- 24/7 cloudimg support
### Set your own domain first
Akkoma fixes its instance domain at setup and cannot cleanly change it later. The appliance boots with its own IP as an evaluation placeholder. Set your own domain and a real TLS certificate before creating content or federating with the wider fediverse.
### Licensing
Akkoma is free software under the AGPL 3.0. The cloudimg charge covers packaging, security patching, image maintenance and 24/7 support. This image is produced by cloudimg and is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by the Akkoma project.
