Apache Iggy on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS by cloudimg

by cloudimg

Hyper-efficient persistent message streaming in Rust; Iggy 0.8.0 server plus web console.

Apache Iggy is a hyper efficient, persistent message streaming platform written in Rust that moves millions of messages per second over TCP, QUIC and HTTP with very low latency and a small footprint. Producers publish messages to topics that are grouped into streams and partitions, and consumers read them by offset and in consumer groups, so you can build event driven microservices, high throughput log and telemetry transport, and real time data pipelines. This image is built and maintained by cloudimg on a hardened, fully patched Ubuntu 24.04 LTS base, running the official Apache Iggy 0.8.0 server and the official Apache Iggy web console 0.3.0 as managed services fronted by an nginx reverse proxy, so the appliance is complete and useful on its own.

A unique root password is generated on the first boot of every VM and written to a root only file, and the development iggy/iggy credential is never set, so no known or blank credential authenticates. Browse to the web console on port 80, sign in as user iggy with the generated password, and manage streams, topics and partitions, browse messages and administer users from the browser. The same credentials work with the HTTP REST API, proxied by nginx at /api, and with the on box command line client, so you can script stream and topic operations and automate your pipelines.

Client SDK applications connect over the Iggy TCP binary transport on port 8090, which is exposed for your producers and consumers; restrict it to trusted source ranges in the network security group. The HTTP API and the console are bound to the loopback interface and reached only through nginx on port 80, and only ports 22, 80 and 8090 are open. All server state, including your streams and messages, persists in a dedicated data volume that survives restarts and reboots. Because the console reaches the API on the same origin it was loaded from, you can front the appliance with your own domain and TLS without changing any configuration.
