Checkmk on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS by cloudimg

Checkmk is a leading open source IT infrastructure and application monitoring system. From an ordinary browser your team can watch the health and performance of hosts, services, networks and applications, discover services automatically, evaluate thresholds, raise notifications, and build dashboards and views on a rich library of built in checks. This image is built and maintained by cloudimg on a hardened, fully patched Ubuntu 24.04 LTS base, running the Checkmk Raw edition (the free, open source edition built on the Nagios core) as a single self contained monitoring site.

The site is created and started for you, ready to add your first host. The system Apache web server terminates HTTPS on port 443 with a certificate generated uniquely on the first boot of every VM, and a unique administrator password for the cmkadmin account is generated on first boot too, so no known or default login ships in the image. Sign in to the web interface at https over the public IP as cmkadmin with the password from /root/checkmk-credentials.txt, then add hosts with the Checkmk agent, SNMP or an API integration and put them into monitoring.

Port 80 serves an unauthenticated /healthz endpoint for load balancer probes and redirects browsers to HTTPS. The monitoring site and all of its data live under /omd/sites/cmk on the OS disk. For production, place your own certificate or a load balancer with a managed certificate in front of the appliance.
