FreedomBox is a private personal server, built as a Debian Pure Blend, that you run and control yourself instead of renting services from a cloud provider. Everything is administered through a friendly web console called Plinth: from one dashboard you enable and configure a curated catalogue of Free Software applications - file sharing and backups, a personal VPN, a website and blog, contact and calendar sync, chat and messaging, a wiki, media streaming and more - without editing configuration files by hand.
This image delivers FreedomBox 23.6.2 on a fully patched Debian 12 base, with the Plinth console served over HTTPS behind Apache and every listed application ready to enable when you need it.
No known credential ever ships. FreedomBox has no default login. On the first boot of every VM a unique one time setup secret is generated and written to a root only file. You open the Plinth console, enter that secret in the secure first run wizard, and create your own administrator account - so nobody on the network can claim the admin account before you do. This is the upstream FreedomBox security design, packaged for the cloud.
