openSUSE Leap 16.0

openSUSE Leap 16.0, a stable community enterprise Linux sharing its core with SLE 16
openSUSE Leap is a free, community driven Linux distribution produced by the openSUSE Project. This cloudimg image runs openSUSE Leap 16.0, which shares its core codebase with SUSE Linux Enterprise 16 for a stable, well tested platform on the Linux 6.12 LTS kernel. It is built by ingesting the official upstream openSUSE Leap 16.0 Azure image, so the base is the genuine community artifact, not a repackaged third party build.
The image is fully patched at publication and stays that way. Package management is zypper against the gpg checked openSUSE repositories, and unattended security patching is armed through a systemd timer that runs zypper patch on a daily schedule, so customer machines keep applying openSUSE maintenance updates automatically. A zypper patch-check on a fresh machine reports zero pending, and the booted kernel is a packaged, managed kernel.
Secure by default and asserted, not assumed. The customer SSH key is injected by Azure at first boot; the image ships with no password (root locked), no authorized_keys and no baked SSH host keys, which are regenerated per machine, so two machines built from this image never share an identity. SELinux is enforcing, both at runtime and persisted (openSUSE Leap 16 adopts SELinux as its default mandatory access control). Exactly one service is exposed, SSH on port 22; rpcbind ships disabled and re enablable in one command, so no undocumented listener ships. There is no swap in the image, as Azure certification requires. The bootloader is grub2 and the Azure serial console is armed for out of band recovery.
openSUSE Leap is free and open source, and it is a collection of independently licensed components (GPL, LGPL, MIT, BSD, Apache-2.0, MPL and more), not a single licence; each package's own terms are readable on the machine and the upstream image ships a software bill of materials. No paid subscription, licence key or support contract is required, and no SUSE entitlement is involved. cloudimg is not affiliated with or endorsed by SUSE or the openSUSE Project; openSUSE Leap is used nominatively to identify the distribution the image contains. cloudimg provides packaging, secure by default hardening, regular security patching and 24/7 support with a guaranteed 24 hour response SLA.
