OrangeHRM on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS
OrangeHRM Open Source Edition is a widely deployed free open source Human Resource Management system used by HR teams to manage employee information (PIM), leave, time and attendance, recruitment and performance, all with user and access control in one web console. Built and maintained by cloudimg on a hardened, fully patched Ubuntu 24.04 LTS base, with OrangeHRM 5.9 served by nginx and PHP 8.3 FPM and a bundled local MariaDB server so the appliance is complete on its own.
The OrangeHRM database is installed and ready with the full schema and modules, and a unique administrator password is generated on the first boot of every VM. No default or shipped OrangeHRM login authenticates: the demo default Admin and admin123 is rejected, the single Admin account is rotated to a unique per VM secret stored as a modern bcrypt hash, and common guesses are rejected. Browse to the console on port 80 with the password from /root/orangehrm-credentials.txt, then manage employees in PIM, leave, time and attendance, recruitment, performance and users.
The bundled MariaDB listens only on the loopback interface (127.0.0.1:3306) and is never exposed to the network. A single dedicated managed data disk carries the MariaDB database and the OrangeHRM configuration, so your HR data stays on managed, snapshot friendly storage separate from the OS disk. The web installer is removed after setup so it can never run again. An unauthenticated /healthz endpoint supports Azure Load Balancer probes.
OrangeHRM serves plain HTTP on port 80 out of the box. For production, put it behind your own domain and TLS, keep MariaDB on the loopback interface, and take regular snapshots of the data disk.
