Render HTML, SVG and Markdown from DAX columns and measures in your Power BI reports.

HTML Content Secure is a certified custom visual for Microsoft Power BI that renders HTML, SVG, and Markdown from your data model directly on the report canvas. Write columns and measures in DAX to generate dynamic content such as KPI cards, rich tables, narrative text, and inline SVG, or render HTML and Markdown that is already stored in your model.

This edition supports a reduced set of HTML and SVG tags and does not load external resources, in order to comply with Power BI certification requirements. If you need the widest possible access to the DOM or need to load external content, use the regular HTML Content visual, which is uncertified and has no such restrictions.

Built to work the way Power BI does:

  • As a certified visual, it works with export to PDF and PowerPoint and email subscriptions, and in tenants that only permit certified visuals.
  • First-class integration with Power BI interactivity: tooltips (including report page tooltips), cross-filtering, cross-highlighting, drillthrough, and context menus.
  • The report theme's palette is exposed as CSS variables, so your content follows theme and high-contrast changes without hard-coded colors.
  • Every value from your data is sanitized before it reaches the page, so report viewers only ever see the tags and attributes this edition allows.

Built for the authoring experience:

  • Templates wrap your rows in a shared body and row shell, so your measures only need to produce per-row markup.
  • A visual-level stylesheet, which (like the body template) can be bound to a measure.
  • An in-visual diagnostics dialog showing the processed HTML, exactly what the sanitizer removed and why, captured console output and host events. Power BI has no developer tools, so the visual brings its own.
  • Render modes let you choose whether updates rebuild everything or keep unchanged rows in place.
  • Reports built on earlier versions keep rendering exactly as they did.

Privacy policy: this visual is free and open source under the MIT License. Its code does not collect your data, which is accessed for display purposes only, and this edition cannot load external resources. Report authors supply their own HTML via the data model; refer any concerns about that content to the report author.

Advanced use: the visual passes your content into the DOM on your behalf. What renders depends on the browser (Power BI Desktop is not a full web browser) and on the least-privilege sandbox Power BI applies to all custom visuals. Known limitations are documented on the website.
