Web server: NGINX on AlmaLinux 9, hardened, reverse proxy and TLS termination, version banner off.
NGINX on AlmaLinux 9
A production-ready NGINX web server and reverse proxy on AlmaLinux 9, built and hardened for the Azure Marketplace. NGINX is installed from the AlmaLinux AppStream, enabled as a service, then started with the firewall opened on first boot.
Who this is for: Web teams, platform engineers, and administrators who want a hardened NGINX on Azure on an enterprise RHEL-compatible base without assembling the runtime by hand.
Target industries: ISVs, software and SaaS, e-commerce, media, and public sector — any organization serving web traffic or fronting applications on Azure.
Value proposition: Standing up a patch-current NGINX on an enterprise Linux base means installing it, enabling the service, opening the firewall, and keeping SELinux contexts intact. This image does that for you:
- NGINX from the AlmaLinux 9 AppStream — installed and enabled as a managed systemd service, BSD-2-Clause licensed, with the default document-root SELinux contexts intact
- Started and firewalled on first boot — the service starts, HTTP and HTTPS are opened in firewalld, and a health check confirms NGINX is serving before the VM is marked ready
- Monthly patched & hardened — rebuilt each month from the upstream base with the latest OS security updates; hardened to Microsoft's Azure Marketplace certification standards before any version is published
- Ready to run — the service is installed, enabled, and configured to start on boot, so the VM is productive minutes after deployment instead of after a manual install
- Audit trail per release — build and certification evidence retained for every published image version, available for compliance audits and change-management documentation
Plans available:
- NGINX on AlmaLinux 9 — Gen2 — Trusted Launch-capable Gen2 VM image; $0.09 per vCPU-hour software fee plus standard Azure compute and storage rates. NGINX is open-source software under the BSD-2-Clause license.
Supported software and integrations: Azure Application Gateway, Azure Load Balancer, Azure Monitor, Azure Virtual Network; any HTTP/HTTPS backend or static content.
Recommended deployment: Standard_D2as_v5 or larger; Premium SSD. Front with Azure Application Gateway or Azure Load Balancer for TLS and scale-out; place behind a virtual network for private workloads.
