Inven for Excel

by Inven

Pull live company financials into any cell, build models and research markets from the task pane.

Inven for Excel brings company data into the spreadsheet you are already working in. Six worksheet functions return figures straight into cells, and a task pane assistant researches companies and writes the results into the sheet. Build comps, LBO & DCF models and more!

The functions

Type a formula, get a value back, and recalculate it like any other cell:

  • =INVEN.COMPANY_DATA("kone.com","TOTAL_REV") — one field for one company, optionally for a given fiscal year and in a currency you name.
  • =INVEN.COMPANY_DATA_ARRAY(A2:A50,"TOTAL_REV") — the same field down a whole column of companies, as one batched request rather than one per row.
  • =INVEN.COMPANY_META("kone.com","TOTAL_REV") — where that figure came from, so a number in a model can be defended, along with the FX rate applied and the date it was taken.
  • =INVEN.COMPANY_META_ARRAY(A2:A50,"TOTAL_REV") — the same provenance as a column beside the figures.
  • =INVEN.COMPANY_RESOLVE("KONE") — a company name turned into the domain the other functions take.
  • =INVEN.COMPANY_FIELD("kone.com","employees") — the escape hatch, for anything the field codes do not cover.

Field codes cover the company profile, headline figures, funding, growth signals, the income statement, the balance sheet, margins and growth rates. Money comes back in the currency it was filed in, or converted into one you ask for.

The assistant

The task pane runs the Inven research assistant against the open workbook. Ask it for the companies matching a description and it writes the rows into the sheet, so a longlist does not have to be assembled by hand before the formulas go next to it.

Saved workflows

The requests your team keeps going back to — a standard set of figures for a new name, a recurring market update — can be saved as workflows in Inven and run from the pane by typing / and picking one. Everyone starts from the same instructions, so the same request fills the sheet the same way whoever asks for it, and editing a workflow in Inven changes what the next run does without anyone touching the workbook.

Who uses it

Corporate development and M&A teams, private equity and venture investors, investment bankers, and strategy consultants — anyone who builds company models and lists in a spreadsheet rather than reading them in a web app.

Requirements

A paid Inven subscription with the Excel add-in enabled for your organisation is required. There is no free version of the add-in, no trial inside it and no purchasing in it: it is a client for a service you subscribe to separately, and the functions do not return data without an Inven account. To arrange a subscription, see https://www.inven.ai. Microsoft 365 is also required — Excel on Windows, on Mac, or in a browser.
