CommaFeed -- a self hosted feed reader you fully own
CommaFeed is a self hosted RSS and Atom feed reader in the style of the classic Google Reader. Subscribe to the news sites, blogs and release feeds you follow, and CommaFeed fetches new articles on a schedule and presents them in a fast, keyboard friendly web interface with folders, tags, full text search, starred items and read tracking.
It gives you one private place to keep up with the web, without a third party service holding your reading habits. This cloudimg image ships CommaFeed 7.2.0 as the official GraalVM native build, so there is no Java runtime to manage, backed by a local PostgreSQL database. CommaFeed is bound to loopback behind nginx on port 80, which also serves an unauthenticated health endpoint for load balancer probes, so there is no second public listener to secure.
Secure by default: the image ships an empty database, so the well known admin over admin account never exists on your VM. On first boot every VM creates its administrator with a unique random password, written to a root only file, before the reader is ever reachable from the network. Public registration is disabled by default, so only accounts you create can sign in.
All of your subscriptions and articles live on a dedicated Azure data disk that is captured with the image, so your reading data stays with the VM and is kept off the operating system disk. The base OS is hardened, fully patched at build time, and keeps unattended security updates enabled.
CommaFeed is Apache 2.0 licensed and free to use; the cloudimg charge covers packaging, security patching, image maintenance and 24/7 support. This image is provided by cloudimg and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the CommaFeed project.
