Debian 13
by cloudimg
Debian 13 trixie, fully patched and secure by default, supported 24/7 by cloudimg.
Debian 13, codenamed trixie, is the current Debian stable release. Debian is one of the oldest and most widely deployed Linux distributions, assembled and maintained by the Debian Project, and it is the base a large part of the Linux ecosystem is built on. It pairs a cloud tuned kernel with an archive of tens of thousands of maintained packages, making it a dependable foundation for web and application servers, container hosts, databases, build and continuous integration runners, or simply a general purpose Linux server.
Debian stable changes slowly and predictably. The kernel, toolchain and library surface stay fixed for the life of the release, so software you build and certify against it keeps working and you are not forced into a distribution upgrade partway through a project.
cloudimg ships the release fully patched at the moment of capture. This image was cut from Debian 13.6 and is verified with a simulated upgrade reporting zero packages remaining and with no package held, because a single held package silently stops receiving security updates forever and would make a fully patched image not fully patched at all. Unattended security upgrades are left armed, and the arming is verified against the effective apt configuration and against the origins the updater actually resolves, so the instance genuinely keeps patching itself rather than merely appearing configured.
Nothing known ships inside the image. There is no default password, the root account is locked, password authentication over SSH is disabled, no authorized key survives capture, and the SSH host keys and machine identifier are regenerated uniquely on every instance, so the key you supply at deployment is the only way in and no two instances share a host identity. AppArmor is enabled, the Azure serial console is available for out of band recovery, and no swap is baked onto the operating system disk. Every deployment is paired with a step by step guide.
Licensing: Debian is free software, but it is not one licence. Debian is a distribution, a collection of thousands of independently maintained packages each carrying its own terms, which are recorded in /usr/share/doc per package on the running instance. Everything in this image comes from Debian's main component, the part of the archive that meets the Debian Free Software Guidelines; the contrib, non free and non free firmware components are deliberately not enabled, and you can add them yourself if you need them. Running Debian requires no licence key and no paid subscription.
