frePPLe, open source production planning and demand forecasting, on Ubuntu 24.04 by cloudimg
frePPLe is an open source suite for production planning, supply-chain planning and demand forecasting. It combines a Django web application, a PostgreSQL database and a high-performance C++ planning engine to model your items, locations, resources, operations, demand and forecasts, and to run constrained and unconstrained plans that generate manufacturing orders, purchase orders and distribution orders together with resource-load and material-flow output. Teams use it for material requirements planning (MRP), capacity planning, distribution requirements planning (DRP) and sales and operations planning.
This image delivers frePPLe fully installed and served by Apache with the mod_wsgi application server, the PostgreSQL database and the frePPLe planning worker already running, so a complete planning environment is operational within minutes of launch, with no manual Django, Apache, PostgreSQL or planning-engine configuration. A background worker processes the plan and forecast jobs submitted from the Execute screen, so generating a plan from the web interface works out of the box.
Secure by default: no administrator account and no shared password ship in the image. On first boot the instance address is configured automatically, a fresh Django secret key and a fresh database password are generated, the planning database is initialised empty, and a unique administrator account is created and written to a root-only file on the instance. This eliminates the default administrator, default database password and shared secret key that a manual installation would otherwise carry, and no two deployments ever share a credential.
