Kimai on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS

by cloudimg

Kimai is a self-hosted time-tracking app for teams and freelancers to log hours and invoice

Kimai is a popular open source, self hosted time tracking application for teams and freelancers. Record working hours against customers, projects and activities with a live timer or manual entries, then turn those timesheets into invoices and exportable reports, control access with roles and teams, and keep every record private on infrastructure you control. This image is built and maintained by cloudimg on a hardened, fully patched Ubuntu 24.04 LTS base, running Kimai 2.60.0 as a Symfony application behind nginx with PHP 8.3 FPM and a local MariaDB database, so the appliance is complete on its own and ready the moment the VM boots.

Security is built in. The image ships with no default login: a fresh application secret, a rotated database password and a unique administrator password are all generated on the first boot of every VM and written to a root only file, so two VMs never share credentials. Sign in to the web interface on port 80 as the generated administrator, then create your customers, projects and activities and start recording time.

The MariaDB data directory and the Kimai application tree each live on their own dedicated managed data disk, separate from the operating system disk, so you can resize either tier independently. MariaDB binds to loopback only and is never exposed to the network. The database schema is migrated at build time, so there is no manual setup step. For production, point Kimai at your own domain and add TLS, and wire up LDAP or SAML single sign on and the REST API for integrations.
