LibreChat on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS by cloudimg

LibreChat is a popular open source, self hosted AI chat interface: a feature rich, ChatGPT style web front end for large language models that lets you use many providers from one place. Connect your own OpenAI, Anthropic, Google or Azure OpenAI keys, or point at any OpenAI compatible endpoint including a local model server, and switch between models in a single conversation. This image is built and maintained by cloudimg on a hardened, fully patched Ubuntu 24.04 LTS base, running LibreChat with MongoDB and Meilisearch behind an nginx reverse proxy, so the appliance is complete on its own.

Security is built in. The image ships with no default login and no user rows: registration is open, so your first visit lands on the sign up screen and the first account you create is yours. The JWT signing keys and the credential encryption keys are generated uniquely on the first boot of every VM into a root only file, so no two instances share a signing key and nothing secret ships inside the image.

MongoDB and Meilisearch bind to the internal container network only and are never exposed; Meilisearch powers fast conversation search. The application binds to loopback and is served by nginx on port 80, configured for the streamed, server sent responses the chat relies on and ready for your TLS certificate. No provider key ships in the image: the app boots and serves the full interface with no external key, and you add a provider key or a local endpoint from the interface after sign up. The stack refreshes itself to the newest LibreChat release on first boot.
