Oracle Linux 10 Arm64 LVM
by cloudimg
Hardened, fully patched RHEL 10 compatible Linux for Azure Cobalt 100 Arm VMs, on an LVM root.
Oracle Linux 10 for 64-bit Arm, on LVM
Oracle Linux 10 is Oracle's free and freely redistributable enterprise Linux distribution, binary compatible with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10, with Premier Support to June 2030 and Extended Support to June 2035. This image is the native 64-bit Arm (AArch64/arm64) build running the Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel, made for Azure Arm virtual machine sizes powered by the Azure Cobalt 100 processor, such as the Dpsv6 family, where many workloads run at lower cost than on x86 for comparable performance. It tracks the Oracle Linux 10 major release on Oracle's rolling repositories, brought fully up to date at build time.
LVM disk layout
The root filesystem lives on a logical volume in the rootvg volume group, alongside a dedicated volume for kernel crash dumps, rather than on a fixed partition. Grow the root volume online after enlarging the Azure disk, add data volumes, or reshape storage with standard LVM tools. The deployment guide includes the growth procedure, tested on this image.
Hardened and current at capture
Every available update is applied at build time and again immediately before capture, the machine is rebooted onto its newest kernel and superseded kernels are removed, and an automated gate blocks capture if any update remains outstanding. dnf-automatic is armed to apply all available updates on a timer, never auto-rebooting. Defects in the stock image are fixed: the rpcbind port is closed, the temporary disk warning no longer fails on sizes without a temporary disk, the clock runs in UTC, and the SELinux labels LVM writes stay consistent on every clone.
Secure by default
No credential is baked into the image: the root password is locked, password and keyboard-interactive authentication are disabled, and access is only ever by the SSH key you supply when you create the VM. SSH host keys, the machine identity and the network identity are regenerated on every instance. SSH on port 22 is the only network listener, SELinux is enforcing, firewalld is active, and GPG signature checking stays on. No swap is baked into the image.
