Relational database: MariaDB 11.4 LTS on hardened Ubuntu 24.04; listens on localhost by default.
MariaDB Server on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS
A production-ready MariaDB 11.4 LTS database server on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, built and hardened for the Azure Marketplace. MariaDB is installed from the official MariaDB repository, enabled as a systemd service, and configured to start on first boot.
Who this is for: Developers, DBAs, and platform teams who want a drop-in open-source MySQL alternative on Azure with a long-term-support release line.
Target industries: Web application backends, e-commerce, content management, hosting providers, and migrations off proprietary MySQL.
Value proposition: Running a secure, patch-current MariaDB server on Azure means installing the engine, hardening it, and tracking the LTS line. This image does that for you:
- MariaDB 11.4 LTS — the long-term-support release, installed from the official MariaDB repository and running as a managed systemd service
- Monthly patched & hardened — rebuilt each month from the upstream base with the latest OS security updates; hardened to Microsoft's Azure Marketplace certification standards before any version is published
- Ready to run — the service is installed, enabled, and configured to start on boot, so the VM is productive minutes after deployment instead of after a manual install
- Audit trail per release — build and certification evidence retained for every published image version, available for compliance audits and change-management documentation
Plans available:
- MariaDB on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS — Gen2 (usage-based) — Trusted Launch-capable Gen2 VM image; billed pay-as-you-go at $0.09 per vCPU-hour, plus standard Azure compute and storage rates
Supported software and integrations: Azure Monitor, Azure Backup, Azure Virtual Network, Azure Private Link, and any MySQL/MariaDB-compatible client, ORM, or BI tool.
Recommended deployment: Standard_D2ads_v6 or larger; Premium SSD for the data volume. Deploy into a private subnet and connect over Private Link or VNet peering for production. MariaDB listens on localhost (127.0.0.1) by default. To open it to your network: set bind-address, create a database user scoped to your clients’ addresses (root stays local-only), and allow port 3306 in the network security group from those addresses only.
