CentOS Stream 9 with GNOME Desktop and RDP Access

by Madarson It, LLC

Azure-based VM with CentOS Stream 9, GNOME desktop, and xrdp pre-configured for graphical remote access from any RDP client.

This Azure-based virtual machine is pre-configured with CentOS Stream 9, the GNOME desktop environment, and xrdp for graphical remote access from any standard RDP client.

Connect to a full Linux desktop in the cloud using Microsoft Remote Desktop, Microsoft Remote Desktop for Mac, or any standards-compliant RDP client. No X11 forwarding, no VNC setup, no extra software required on your client beyond an RDP client. Sign in, get a familiar GNOME desktop, and start working.

GNOME Desktop Environment

The full GNOME desktop is pre-installed and configured, including a file manager, terminal, text editor, system settings, and the standard application launchers. Add your own tools and applications using dnf, Flatpak, or other RHEL-family package sources.

RDP Remote Access

xrdp is pre-configured to allow remote desktop sessions over port 3389. Open port 3389 in your Network Security Group, set a password for your user, and connect from any RDP client. Multiple users can have their own desktop sessions on the same VM.

Key Features

  • Full GNOME desktop environment pre-installed
  • xrdp configured for remote graphical access over standard RDP
  • Compatible with Windows Remote Desktop, macOS RDP, and Linux RDP clients
  • SELinux enforcing by default for additional access protection
